Hi everyone. You’ll be noticing some changes. After having this blog for some time I am going to be customizing it in to more of a “blogsite” as it’s called. Weighing my options, rather than investing in to a website and a blog to maintain I will be customizing this site to include galleries and other things. I don’t know CSS but it’s time to learn!

I’ve known Heidi for some time. During her pregnancy I missed the baby shower that I really wanted to go to. So I thought for awhile..hmmm..what can I do now? Oh, I know! A session! My gift to her was a session so she can have some new images of her baby girl, son and family. Unfortunately during flu/cold season we had to reschedule several times but it was well worth the wait. Thank you Heidi!

Have you ever held back from a photography session because you’re scared of having portraits not reflect you, the kids, or your family? How do we fix that problem?

This idea came to me just now. This month has been a big month learning what you expect for your portraits. I have been doing several lighting styles, poses and ideas during sessions as a “one size fits all”. Well..I’m learning that’s just not working. There is no one size fits all with photography because we all like something a bit different. I love fashion photography. My love doesn’t fit with most of the sessions I offer. It works only if you have the same love I do. Are you looking for something dramatic, fun and airy, or something more traditional? Let me know a head of time and we can work with that.

If you’re not sure what exactly it is you like feel free to ask questions or do searches so you can define what it is. We all have a certain style we like, it’s just defining what it is to show who you are.  My business is boutique…that means custom. I want to live up to meaning as much as possible so you can walk away from your session with images you love.

Orders have arrived and it feels like Christmas morning every time I see UPS came!

Misty’s Boudoir 8×8 hardcover album arrived and I’m thrilled. It was ordered as a gift to her husband a couple of weeks ago. Through the design process he wasn’t allowed to see it and sometimes he was in the next room! I love being sneaky sometimes.

The new business cards arrived as well. Misty’s son Clay (aka Hat Model) is below. Thank you Misty!

U.S. Marines raise the American flag atop Mt. Suribachi, Iwo Jima, on Friday, Feb. 23, 1945 (© Joe Rosenthal/AP)

Copyright © Joe Rosenthal

65 years ago Joe Rosenthal captured this image. These men became iconic. The flag was raised during the Battle of Iwo Jima, a Japanese island in the Pacific, during WWII. Unfortunately three of the six men did not survive, however the remaining three returned home.
Coming from a military family many thoughts come to mind seeing this image. I don’t like war….then again not many do because of the destruction and death. All I can say is thank you to those who have served and continue to serve.
You have the courage, patience and diligence I do not. You face the odds that most won’t. You sacrifice yourself. Again, thank you.

Surprise Discount!

Starting today for the next two weeks those who have served receive a 25% discount on all prints and products. Just present your I.D. during your session!

Hi everyone, I’m back to blogging.

This last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind. Even though it was hard work it was well worth the effort.

This last weekend was spent with the wonderful hubbs family attending an EAA (experimental aircraft association) dinner in the Clarion. I have to admit I was pretty impressed as I haven’t been there before. The dinner was held to promote a Sioux City EAA Chapter. Personally I believe it would be a great thing for the community. To be able to promote interest in people, teach, learn and have fun with your accomplishments might be something Sioux City could be missing.

The family spent the night here at the house and it was great to see everyone again..especially my favorite nephew, Eric. He is 2 years old and definitely gives us a run for the money. During the EAA dinner he was outgoing and letting everyone know he was happy to be there. In fact, the live all female singing group Girlfriend invited him on stage to help with a song.

Even though I was fulfilling orders and building albums he still had to make sure he knew what I was doing as his curiosity is running wild now.

“ashley….ashley…..ashley….ashley…”

What Eric?

“Hi! What are you doing? I’m Eric Heim. I’m running!”

Since he’s full of energy I figured well…I’ll just take him in to the camera room for a shot…Nope, not happening. He turned in to Mr Cranky Pants because he wanted to play with the vacuum. Despite the look I absolutely love it! Then the next day came and he loved the camera….who needs toys when you have a new buddy and can throw cat food?

I wish we lived closer. I have to say I love him as the son I don’t have!

Chris and Amanda dropped by for a session. Chris contacted me for this as a surprise gift for Valentine’s Day. I’d love how easy going they were and would love to have them over again!

First of all I would to give a huge THANK YOU to all the gals who participated in the mini-sessions. I enjoyed them all! Everyone did a fantastic job during the sessions and I’m proud to photograph you!

Speaking with a good friend she helped me realize something important. Improvement from the first to the most recent sessions done. It means a lot to me to have all of you notice my progression and trust me with your portraits. I am proud of how far I have come in so little time and the more feedback and honesty you provide helps the progression.

This fits with my goal this month “Listening to the customer”. I have learned so many things with in the last several weeks of what people prefer. It’s important to continue being honest as this only pushes the business to the next level providing you with better service, images and products.

Readers, thank you so much for supporting me. 2010 has been a great year so far, let’s keep it going!
